This song has been on repeat for the past two weeks. I own most of Radioheads albums, but when In Rainbows came out i didn’t even bother to download it (yeah i know lazy). But when I heard it at the end of Choke, I couldn’t resist listening to it again and again. I don’t know what specifically I like about it, probably the haunting way Thom Yorke sings, or the way it floats in and out.

Give it a try, even if you’re not a Radiohead fan.

Moving on

Well, I’m pretty bad at updating this. Its been about two weeks since the last time, and a lot has happened.

  • I have now visited three universities to talk to professors and discuss their research, as well as tour their labs. This past weekend I flew to NFLD and I think I found my new home for the next two-four years. The research looks exciting, the lab is well layed-out and well stocked, the professor seems genuinely nice (not the fake kind), the university looked awesome, and St. John’s is a nice medium sized city. Not too big, not too small. Isolated enough to have its own unique culture, but not too isolated to feel like the edge of the world
  • I started going to the gym. No, don’t expect to see a buff Justin running around the track and pumping iron. No, I’m keeping it low key (I’m new at this, give me a break), I’ve been using the spinner bike and walking the track. maybe later I’ll pick up the courage to start jogging on the track, but I doubt that will happen soon. I was pretty terrified to go to the gym, I’m a pretty scrawny guy, and I don’t know why but I expected people to point and laugh as I walked through the doors. But, thankfully that didn’t happen, most people probably didn’t notice I was there, they were too concentrated on their own exercises. One thing I didn’t like was the communal showers, I’m pretty self-conscious, and don’t enjoy parading nude for the whole world to see.
  • For the past couple of weeks I’ve been on the organizing committee for a pub-crawl. And it was held this past Friday. And man was it big. We had over 450 participants. We think that it was the largest pub-crawl that the university has ever seen. Other than a couple hiccups it ran pretty smoothly, so I’m pretty happy.

So, it’s been a busy couple of weeks, but I’d rather it be busy than boring.

With the new year here, I figured it would be a good idea to share what my goals for 2010 are:

  • The big one: graduate and get accepted into a masters program. So far i’m on track, just a couple more courses to go and I have already visited a couple potential universities.
  • Go to the gym. I know that everyone says they will do this. But, if I want to survive the Rockie’s I will have to be prepared.
  • The big event: Biking across the country. Victoria to Cape Spear, over 7000kms, two and a half months. This will be huge!
  • I want to be back on PEI to take part in the ‘Biking for breakfast challenge’ . By the end of my trip I should be prepared for the challenge. (http://www.pei.bikingforbreakfast.com/).
